Default Paid to recycle

This seems a bit mad to me, similar to paying kids to stay at school. If it makes more people recycle i guess it can only be a good thing.

Quote:
A Tory government would encourage schemes under which people would be paid to recycle, shadow chancellor George Osborne is due to announce.

Mr Osborne will argue that current government policies are unpopular and suggest that "instead of using sticks, we can use carrots" to boost recycling.

Firms in the US have shown how to "make it pay to go green", he will add.

In a speech to pressure group the Green Alliance, he will also say landfill tax rates would not fall under the Tories.

"This will send a powerful signal to businesses and councils that innovative approaches... are possible," he will say.

Boris Johnson was promoting these paid to recycle schemes as part of his mayoral campaign ... http://www.mybarnconversion.com/index.php?s=recycle

I like the idea - incentive people rather than constantly tax and fine them ... positive rather than negative

Im torn on this one, I think its good for the reasons you state mybarnconversion, but its depressing that people dont see it as a priority enough to do it without being paid

Totally agree. Why is it so low down the list on some people's priorities?
