Some of you will know from the "slugs" thread that I have recently put a new pond in the back garden. I've had loads of frogs frolicking about in it and currently have a lot of spawn.
Problem is - the water has gone very green and slimy. I would be extremely grateful for any eco-friendly ideas/suggestions on how to deal with this! |

what type of plants fo you have in it?
I'm not an expert but I think that you are meant to try and get some kind of aerators or the water will just go stagnant. You've put in a molded pond haven't you?

Yes, it is pre-formed. The only plants in so far are a water lily and an iris, both of which have yet to flower. I haven't put in an aerator yet although I have been running the fountain for at least a couple of hours each day. Maybe an aerator is the answer. That's me off to the garden centre at the weekend. Thank you!
By the way, the Heuchera plug plants are taking hold nicely and will hopefully be big enough to give the baby frogs some cover by the time they arrive. The Hostas are ordered but not delivered yet. |

You'll have to take a photo (I love pictures as you may have guessed) of it when you first put it in and then take another at the end of the summer to see how developed it has become. The wildlife chap that came to advise us on the school garden pond said that it is amazing how quickly wildlife comes to a pond. I can't wait to get started on installing ours.

Will do!
I'll take a picture as it is now (or at least as it is at the weekend) and upload it. Quote:

I agree with Andy, great looking pond there, and If you have frogs already, then it is obviously good for them too!
Im sure it will look even better as it beds in too :)
