make sure you give the venus fly trap plenty of water... I used to have a couple when I lived in an attic bedroom which was plagued by flies - they work great, but are quickly gone if you forget to water them!

These little guys are fascinating! My kids used to love catching flies and such to feed to them! But, I'm horrid with houseplants and they never lived long inside.

Default They need to hibernate

I do seem to remember when I had mine that when it gets cold their leaves may drop off and they need to rest, it's something to do with the climate they're native to. This means they need to be put somewhere cold and it won't matter if it's dark.

I always assumed that venus fly traps came from hot places!!
I have had many in the past but they all conked it so I can't be of much help I'm afraid.
I am currently trying to grow one from seed and it has to be kept damp and moist so wish me luck. and good luck to you to.

If I remember my Planet Earth properly, I think venus fly traps are native to swampy land in California - so they do like it warmish, as well as damp as mentioned previously!

Default carnivorous plants

Ours don;t seem to eat the bugs we have fed them. Does anyone know how to get them to "eat"?

If I'm successful I will. It says that they take 6-8 weeks to shoot and mine have only been in for about 4 so i'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
