Was anyone aware it was national recycling week this week? If so, does your area have anything special going on,or should every week be recycle week, and our councils just aren't focusing on this enough?
Should there be more awareness brought by the people,or are businesses responsible for reducing packaging and therefore waste? Thoughts please!! Recycle Week - Recycling, Recycle Now - Official UK recycling campaign |

Its not been advertised or promoted in any way as far as I can see, the local supermarket is doing an hour long "thing", and even that is in school time so we can't take the children to learn from another point of view.
In my opinion, not enough is being done! |

I have heard nothing about this where I live and I have even been speaking to the councils recycling man about getting an aluminium foil bin into school. He did not mention it. It's a shame as we could have made a big thing about it with the children. Not good.

Ridiculous! I knew nothing about this, and nobody I have spoken to did either - and we tend to stay pretty up to date on these kinds of things (I even knew when it was national mango week!)
How come they don't use grassroots opportunities like this forum to raise the profile of these events, even if they don't have the funds to properly publicise it? |

Theres a national mango week?? Lovely!
It wouldn't take much would it to find sites like this to promote it, no money involved, just a lot of people that could actually make something good for the run of the event. Very disappointing to see what has been organised for it in the public domain. |

To be honest, does there really need to be a "week" for this. Does that mean everyone makes the effort to recycle for 7 days in the year, but the other 358 days they just throw away everything?
I personally recycle everything I can in terms of what my local council services offer. I do this 365 days a year, and a recycling 'week' wouldn't make any difference to this. I don't understand why everyone can't commit to this as well. In most cases, it takes no more effort than using normal trash, and certainly shouldn't need the motivation of a special week to get people to do it. On another note, I think it's "green" Britain week next week. |

I think its more about getting those that do nothing for most of the year on board. Its an awareness thing, which makes it all the more rediculous that noone i know seems to have heard of it.

I've been catching up on some of my emails and hey, the WWF told me about recycling week I just didn't know it!!!
Mike's right though, it's about raising awareness amongst those who can't be bothered - to try and convince them to change their minds and see the bigger picture.
