Our neighborhood in Colorado (Denver area) has had curb-side pick-up since I've lived here, but they've recently switched from separated materials to single-stream. So now you can put aluminum cans and cardboard into the same bin. I think that this change reduced the variety of things we could recycle, however - things that used to be allowed in the "mixed containers" bin are now listed as forbidden on the "Single stream" bin. I wonder if that's because of the extra work made by single-streaming on the recycle center's end?
