Default We are getting a Mitsubishi Electric Car

The government has set up a project called Cabled to trail the electric car in the UK. As we are keen on electric cars we decided to sign up and see what the options were. We were offered a test drive on the Mitsubishi iMiEV a couple of months ago, we went along with an open mind as we had not decided whether it was the right thing to do as the cost is £350 per month and we already own a G-Wiz.

We were really surprised at the performance of the car with a top speed of 81MPH and a range of 100 miles. The car seats 4 adults and is even a 5 door. We decided to go ahead with the trail.

The only journeys we are not planning to use the iMiev for are very long distance and holidays as we will be towing a caravan. We are planning to use the 2 electric cars on an everday basis, I will use the iMiEV for the school run, taking the kids around, shopping and my husband will use the G-Wiz for work and short journeys.

The car is now in the country and a induction has been arranged for early next week. We collect the car on Saturday 12th December from Birmingham city centre.

We have started a blog on the Mitsubishi Electric Car which will be updated on a regular basis about our everyday use, charging habits and how we find the car.

Good luck - it'll be a year or two before we're replacing one of our cars, but I'm keen to know how other people find the various electric models out there. Will be keeping an eye on your blog!

That is one of the first electric cars that i think looks "nice""

You will have to let us know how you get on - You should log your journeys in it, so you can see how easy it is to "refuel" etc

The trial is taking place in 8 cities around the country. I think the nearest one to you is in Oxford for the mini e, but believe the trial is already fully booked.

We registered several months ago and come under the Cabled trial, which is for Coventry and Birmingham.

If we here of anything else in your area we will let you know.

We collected the car on Saturday. First impressions of the Mitsubishi i MiEV are good, fast, good pull away speed, comfortable and feels like a normal car. At the moment the range we are getting is about 45-50 miles, which is half of the stated range from the manufacture. It will take a while for the batteries to get conditioned and up to full range.

One of the problems which every owner has got, E.On installed a socket with timer and RCD, unfortunately it was wired wrong and at the moment the timer cannot be used. This is due to be sorted out very soon.

Unfortunately due to having 2 children at home ill, I have not had much time to drive the car and take the photos we wanted. Some of our photos from the launch day can be found on the G-Wiz forum.

You'd think they might 'pre-condition' the batteries before giving the car to you - would make things a lot more convenient, I'm sure!

Here is a brief YouTube video I made as part of a podcast that shows the Mitsubishi iMiEV in action:

how is the charge holding out ? I always wondered how the performance held out in the real world, the manufactures numbers always seem a little sketcy on the details
