Last September I finally bit the bullet and had a 2.8 kiloWatt PV system installed, wasn't cheap but there is only so long you can go on living with candles and a generator.
In January our part of the world was hit with some incredible storms and two high tension pylons fell over. The whole are was cut off from the grid for a week. Ther only two houses with power was mine and my neighbour.
Boy did I feel smug.
